Troy looks to extend Sun Belt dominance
By Bud L. Ellis
The target is squarely painted on the back of the Troy Trojans, and that’s perfectly OK by them.
The four-time defending Sun Belt Conference champions know they will take everybody’s best shot in 2010, as the rest of the conference tries to knock the Trojans from the top spot.
Troy, which went 9-4 overall and 8-0 in conference play in 2009, opens the season at home on Sept. 4 against Bowling Green. Two out-of-conference road games are next: at Oklahoma State and at UAB, before the Sun Belt opener at home on Sept. 25 against Arkansas State.
Thanks to off days and a rare Tuesday game, Troy plays just three times in October (even stranger considering the month has five Saturdays this year). Troy travels to Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday, Oct. 5, plays host to Louisiana-Lafayette on Oct. 16, then travels to Louisiana-Monroe on Oct. 30.
November begins with a visit to North Texas on Nov. 6. Following a home game with Florida International, the Trojans travel to South Carolina, play host to Western Kentucky, and wrap up the regular season with a trip to Florida Atlantic.
